How I purchased my 1989 R32 Skyline GTS4
This here is my own personal car that started off being a daily driven car for 2 years to now a garage queen & weekender. Nissan 1989 R32 Skyline GTS4 sharing the same platform and drivetrain with the GTR but instead of the Rb26det it is fitted with the lowest displacement RB motor that Nissan has to offer, the RB20det.
Rewind back in 2015 i just received my full licence after driving with green P plates for 2 years and I can finally legally drive a high performace vehicle. After many months searching through facebook groups, gumtree & ebay looking for the perfect R32 to purchase I recieved a messege after posting a “WTB” ad from a man named Aiden. He offered his girlfriend Danielle’s R32 GTS4 as she at the time recently purchase a new Mazda MPS and her R32 is sitting in the driveway for months given no attention. Aiden gave me a run down on all the details and modifications thats been done and his price. At the time i thought to myself “Alright cool probably closest thing to a GTR i may aswel check it out”. Later that weekend i travelled to Sydney where the R32 was located which was at the time in their friends workshop as he mentioned the car had some issues and he was willing to fix it before purchase (found out it was a blocked cat). The car really was left in the driveway for months. Dirt, leafs and sticks all over the car. Having doubts but still trying to see all the positives i thought to myself “if i can’t handle it at its worse, how can i handle it at its best”. The body was straight, some rare R32 parts, tasteful mods and typical turbo bolt ons besides that it was bone stock.
A month later after checking out the R32 in person it was finally the time to pick it up. All the issues was fixed, car was detailed and the money was ready to exchange. It was a Friday afternoon and I just finished work. Tired as an old man in a shopping center i recieved an email im able to pick up the car only issue is the car was still unregisted and in order to drive it back home from Sydney i needed to organise a permit. So in a panic state i needed to call Danielle to hand the plates in to the RTA (rms now) so i can apply for the permit. Issue was the RTA closes in 20 minutes. To this day im unsure how we managed it but we did it. Recieved the permit and made my way to Sydney with a friend Steven Rodgers to pick my R32 Skyline.
and this is where my financial mistake began.
